As a secondary crushing equipment in the mining industry, cone crushers are favored for their high production capacity and efficiency. However, during long-term operation, certain faults may occur, and one common issue is the rapid temperature rise and high oil temperature. So, how can this problem be resolved?

What should be the normal oil temperature for a cone crusher?

The normal oil temperature for a cone crusher should generally be controlled between 38-55°C, and should not exceed 60 °C. The normal working temperature range should be controlled within 38-46°C. Continuous operation at high temperatures can significantly reduce the viscosity of the lubricating oil, resulting in oil pressure below 140kPa, which can cause equipment shutdown and seriously affect production progress. Moreover, excessively high oil temperature can also lead to accidents such as burning of the cone crusher's bushings and shaft fractures. However, most cone crushers are equipped with temperature alarms, which will sound an alarm if the oil temperature exceeds the set value.

Five reasons and solutions for excessive oil temperature in cone crushers:

Reason 1: Oil return pipe blockage

A blocked oil return pipe can cause poor lubricating oil circulation and a reduced oil return volume. Normally, the oil return volume should be at least half of the pipe.

Solution: Clear the oil return pipe to ensure smooth lubricating oil circulation.


Reason 2: Lubricating oil failure

Under normal circumstances, lubricating oil should be replaced once every 2000 hours of operation. If this cycle is exceeded, the various indicators of the lubricating oil will significantly decrease, resulting in a higher concentration of dust and impurities in the oil. This can lead to a decrease in lubricating quality and indirect internal wear of the equipment, resulting in excessive temperature rise in the cone crusher.

Solution: Regularly replace the lubricating oil, clean the oil tank, and frequently inspect and clean the impurities on the oil tank filter.


Reason 3: Abnormal operation of the blower

The main function of the blower is to prevent dust and impurities from entering the lubricating oil and the crusher. If the blower is not operating properly, it can indirectly cause excessive temperature rise in the cone crusher.

Solution: Pay attention to the operation of the blower. Normally, the computer interface should display green when the blower is operating normally. If it shuts down abnormally, the display will show red. Based on this, it can be determined whether the blower is operating normally and repairs can be done promptly if needed.

Reason 4: Insufficient cooling intensity

Cone crushers are generally equipped with air cooling systems. In practical use, the cooling intensity of the air cooling system is not always ideal, especially in hot summers.

Solution: Regularly clean the impurities on the cooling fins to ensure the maximum cooling intensity of the air cooling system. Additionally, a water cooling radiator can be installed between the air cooling system and the oil outlet pipe.


Reason 5: Improper operation current setting

The normal operating current for a cone crusher is generally 30-35A. If the current is too high, it will increase the load on the cone crusher, leading to excessive temperature rise.

Solution: Adjust the clearance of the cone crusher according to the load conditions, keep the material level above 300mm from the feed plate, and control the current between 30-35A.
